About Dr. Emily

I’m a coach, psychologist, writer, questioner, searcher, and truth-teller. I am deeply in touch with the nuances of the human condition and committed to the process of inquiry into both myself and others. I’ve always been naturally curious about the deep inner experiences of people: what motivates them? What do they long for? What do they want? What hurts?

These questions led me on a journey that I’ve come to realize is lifelong: a quest to gain a deeper understanding of the inner workings of the human mind and heart, and all its individual variations. I am interested in what makes life meaningful for us, where we get stuck, where we thrive, and what might life look like if our behavior was driven by values, possibility, and self-trust, as opposed to fear and avoidance? I ask myself these questions on a daily basis (I’ve been described as intense). I’m obsessed with the growth process, whether its growth within the self, career, or relationships.

My inclinations led me to earn a BA in English and Sociology from Oberlin College, and, after many exploratory stints in my 20s, a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Mississippi, where I immersed myself in an experiential deep dive of learning Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) from the inside out.
